DOWNTOWN. This longtime plaza was redesigned in 2006 to open it up to the surrounding city and incorporate it more completely into civic life. A woven granite base unifies all elements, including sense-engaging planter boxes, a seasonal ice-skating rink, an LED video board, a kid-friendly water wall, and the much-loved, perennial Tyler Davidson Fountain. Groves of trees and lush plantings add softness, and reconsidered lighting and sound ensure the plaza's continued role as a site for concerts and performances. Free WiFi is an added attraction, as is a spiffy, new underground parking garage.
